چکیده
Obesity is a multifactorial disease, defined by the excessive accumulation of body fat, causing negative consequences for health. Metabolic syndrome (MS) characterized association between abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. Experimental models are essential to elucidate pathophysiology, development, treatment disease. The objective study was evaluate effects maná-cubiu extract (Solanum sessiliflorum Dunal) in experimental diet-induced MS. Male Wistar rats received high-fat, high-calorie diet 24 weeks, with exception healthy control group, which commercial AIN-93 chow, both groups were supplied filtered water. After this period, animals began receive daily gavages containing 150 mg extract/kg or 300 another 8 weeks. group only metformin (150mg/kg). Body weight, bioelectrical impedance (BIA), circumferences Lee index used assess composition. approved Ethics Committee under protocol nº 501. treated 150mg/kg showed weight reduction first month treatment, followed an average 54 grams per animal. 300mg/kg suffered after second (on 9g/animal). This same ones reduce percentage comparing two evaluation moments. results suggest that has potential therapeutic use methods animal need be better standardized.

Background & Objective: Risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke increases with the number of the metabolic risk factors. In general, a person who has the metabolic syndrome is twice as likely to develop heart disease and five times as likely to develop diabetes as someone who does not have the metabolic syndrome. High-calorie-diet rodent models have contributed significantly to the analysi...
